Travel Play: A day in New York-How we get into the City

4 January 2010 3 Comments

Going on adventures is important to me and my family. Making memories is key and with every adventure I hope my kids do not just know the what and when, but they remember how they felt in the moment as we did made a memory.

We spent 1 day in New York City. We spent a total of $177.00. That was for 4 people.  That is about $45.00 per person for a days meals and entertainment. We had a great time. A time we will never forget and hopefully our kids will never forget either. I have broken this post into to sections. Part 1 “How we get into the city” and Part 2: “What we did while we were there”

Seeing that we are from SOUTH jersey, the real south jersey, We have no station in which to take the train. Atlantic City offers rides but only on the weekends and they cater more to the NYC gambler looking to ride south not the other way around.

Our favored options is using the NY waterway.com from Weehawken.  Here are there rates.

Ferry travels between Port Imperial in Weehawken, NJ and West 39th Street in Midtown Manhattan. Connecting shuttle bus service is available in Manhattan and New Jersey.

One Way Fare
Adult – $7.75Child 6 – 11 – $4.75Senior – $7.00Child Under 6 – $0.00 (that’s 0.00 for one of my kids)

What I love most about taking the Weehawken, NJ Ferry is that there is busses in route to take you close to your destination for free. (no cab-love that because it saves money)

There is a Parking Fee:

Weekday before 10am $8
Weekday after 10am $10
Weekends $10

Over all it cost about 60 dollars for us to get in to the city, transportation to our destination and parking. This method is so simple and stress free for me.  I really encourage anyone willing to take an adventure to take a try.

That is how we get into the city.  Do you have a better way or suggestion?  Let me know your thoughts?

As for travel into the city?? I typically take the NJTransit Bus— Which is both relaxing and annoying at the same time. Relaxing ride but the line to get into Port Authority and the line to get out of port authority when youre going home— is THE WORST.

[...] My son, The one that had the Elmo Birthday Party last year is getting older.  It sucks.  I think with the aging of this one I am more hesitant to enjoy the birthday parties because it symbolizes that he is no longer a baby.  He is getting bigger and is now going to be the big THREE.  I am getting over it and realizing that it is still a reason to PART’AY!  I love it.  So, he wants a Taxi Cab party because we recently had a trip to New York City.
